چکیده
Abstract Background In arid and semiarid countries, grain yield of maize is increasingly impaired by soil salinity. Beside amelioration, the development salt‐resistant cultivars a possibility to enhance crop on salt‐affected soils. Aims This study aimed at testing performance in field hybrids soil. addition, planting density was optimized under saline conditions. Methods Four ( Zea mays L. SR‐05, SR‐12, SR‐15, SR‐16) were grown control (EC = 2.0–2.5 dS m −1 ) 10.0–12.0 conditions compared salt‐sensitive cv. Pioneer‐3906. Planting (5, 8, or 11 plants −2 for SR‐12 local hybrid EV‐78. Results Yield Pioneer‐3906 significantly reduced salinity because inhibited kernel setting, whereas SR showed no decrease yield. Based yield, optimum 8 with further increase . contrast EV‐78 harvest index relative 5 observed. Conclusions Vegetative growth decreased due Phase‐I effects but neither water deficiency nor ion toxicity. The experiment corroborated salt resistance Under conditions, may be higher than nonsaline when sufficient supply artificial irrigation guaranteed.

Grain Yield and Heterosis of Maize Hybrids under Nematode Infested and Nematicide Treated Conditions.
Plant-parasitic nematodes are present on maize but resistant genotypes have not been identified in Uganda. This study was aimed at determining the level of nematode resistance among F(1) hybrids, and to estimate grain yield, heterosis and yield losses associated with maize hybrids under nematode infestation. The 30 F(1) hybrids and two local checks were evaluated in a split plot design with nem...

Absence of Epistasis for Grain Yield in Elite Maize Hybrids
ABSTRACT Measures of epistasis in maize hybrids have been estimated by (i) triple-test crosses, (ii) making comparisons Certain maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines are more successful than of single, three-way, and double cross hybrids, or (iii) others in forming elite hybrids. This study was conducted to determine measuring variance components (Hallauer and Miwhether epistatic interactions play a...
متن کاملARGOS8 variants generated by CRISPR‐Cas9 improve maize grain yield under field drought stress conditions
Maize ARGOS8 is a negative regulator of ethylene responses. A previous study has shown that transgenic plants constitutively overexpressing ARGOS8 have reduced ethylene sensitivity and improved grain yield under drought stress conditions. To explore the targeted use of ARGOS8 native expression variation in drought-tolerant breeding, a diverse set of over 400 maize inbreds was examined for ARGOS...
متن کاملPlanting scenarios for maize cropping under drought conditions
ABSTRACT Water management is an essential concept for water intensive crop such as maize dealing with water shortage under drought conditions. Maize production is ranked after wheat and barely in Fars province, Iran. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the effects of planting methods by conventional and modified planters on maize growth and yield at different irrigation re...
